In this lesson you’ll learn 18 very useful Myanmar verb phrases; so, a lot of handy vocabulary today!
Are you ready? အဆင်သင့်ဖြစ်ပြီလား Let’s go!
to go to work အလုပ်သွားတယ်
to continue to work အလုပ် ဆက်လုပ်တယ်
we put ဆက် before a verb to talk about continuing to do that verb
အလုပ် ဆက်လုပ်တယ်
to have a good job
အလုပ်ကောင်းရှိတယ် အလုပ်ကောင်းရှိတယ်
So, for example, we could say he (or she) has a good job:
(သူမှာ) အလုပ်ကောင်းရှိတယ် (သူမှာ) အလုပ်ကောင်းရှိတယ်

Great, well done!
to have a university education
တက္ကသိုလ် ပညာရေးရှိတယ်
တက္ကသိုလ် ပညာရေးရှိတယ်
တက္ကသိုလ် is the word for ‘university’ and it has some rather unusual looking spelling, doesn’t it?!…
But don’t worry!
Just remember university is တက္ကသိုလ် တက္ကသိုလ် Great.
to have a good time ပျော်စရာကောင်းတဲ့အချိန်ရှိတယ်
ပျော်စရာကောင်းတဲ့အချိန်ရှိတယ်
Can you spot the word for ‘time’ in there?
အချိန် - yes!
That’s right.
အချိန် means time.
Well done.
to tell the truth အမှန်အတိုင်းပြောပြတယ်
the word for ‘the truth’ is that first part
But notice that when we say it a little faster, the two 'အ' parts become very weak, the second one almost non-existent
အမှန်အတိုင်း အမှန်အတိုင်းပြောပြတယ်
to have diabetes ဆီးချိုရောဂါရှိတယ်
ဆီးချိုရောဂါရှိတယ်
The word for diabetes has a rather memorable breakdown:
ရောဂါ is the word for ‘a disease’ or ‘an illness’
and ဆီးချို literally means ‘sweet urine’
So there you go.
The ‘sweet urine disease’.
See? Memorable, right?
